Empty add-in window after an update

How to fix an empty TemplateManager365 window after an update

If the TemplateManager365 pane is blank after an update, Outlook is showing an old cached copy of the add-in. These three steps clear it, from a quick reload to emptying the cache folder.

This is usually quick to fix. Try the following steps in order. Most people only need the first one. We have also made changes on our side so this will not happen after future updates.

Step 1: Reload the add-in

  1. Open the TemplateManager365 pane in Outlook.
  2. Click once in an empty white area of the pane to give it focus.
  3. Press Ctrl + R on Windows or Cmd + R on Mac.

If the pane now displays its content, you are done. If it is still empty, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Reload with the cache disabled

  1. Right-click an empty area inside the TemplateManager365 pane.
  2. Select Inspect. A technical panel will open next to the pane. Do not worry, you cannot break anything here.
  3. Select the Network tab at the top of the panel. If the panel is narrow, the tab may be hidden behind the » symbol.
  4. Select the Disable cache checkbox.
  5. Click the empty area of the add-in pane again, then press Ctrl + R on Windows or Cmd + R on Mac.
  6. After the pane loads correctly, close the technical panel using the X in its corner.

Step 3: Delete Outlook’s add-in cache folder

If the pane is still empty, delete the folder where Outlook keeps cached copies of add-ins. This is safe: Outlook rebuilds it with fresh copies the next time it starts. It applies to all add-ins, so others may take a moment longer on their first open afterwards. Always delete the whole contents of the folder, not individual files inside it.

Classic Outlook on Windows

  1. Close Outlook completely.
  2. Press Windows + R, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Wef and press Enter.
  3. Delete everything inside the folder that opens.
  4. Start Outlook again and open TemplateManager365.

Outlook on Mac

  1. Quit Outlook completely.
  2. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder… (or press Cmd + Shift + G).
  3. Paste ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Outlook/Data/Documents/wef and press Enter.
  4. Delete everything inside the folder that opens.
  5. Start Outlook again and open TemplateManager365.

New Outlook on Windows and Outlook on the web

These versions do not have a cache folder you can delete yourself. The reload with the cache disabled in step 2 is the right fix there. In Outlook on the web, clearing your browser’s cache has the same effect.
